The DOGHOUSE DADDIES
are four of the Kansas City area's most distinguished Bluesmen with about 140 years of experience among them. No, no, no, that doesn't mean they're all as old as Pinetop Perkins and Robert Lockwood Jr. They just happen to be four supremely experienced artists who have all been playing the Blues for about 35 years each. The Doghouse Daddies share a musical passion that translates into broad smiles, involuntary foot tapping and in many cases jubilant dancing on the part of their audiences.

Message from the Prez…
I would like to thank all the bands that entered the Blues Blast and congratulate The Bottoms Up Blues Gang for winning. I know it was a tough choice because all the bands put on a great show. It was not an easy job to score these bands so I greatly appreciate the judges taking the time to do so. Thank you to Shea Townsend, Don Atchley, and Phil Overeem for being judges and to Bob Schwartz for tallying the scores.

ELLIS FIELD - CULLODEN, GA SATURDAY, 09/02/06
BY PETER "BLEWZZMAN" LAURO

Ya know that town that you hear people refer to when they say "don't blink, or you'll drive right through it"? Well, I found it.....after backtracking of course. Ya see, the first time I drove through it I made a mistake and blinked, and indeed, I drove right through it.

Welcome to Culloden, GA. - home to approximately 264 Cullodenites and the "ANNUAL CHICK WILLIS HOMECOMING BLUES FESTIVAL".

She made her first mark in music in 1956, when she appeared on a compilation album called "Instrumental Music of the Southern Appalachians."

Rod Piazza on PBS
Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers will appear on national television as part of the "Sierra Center Stage" series on PBS-TV. The series, modeled somewhat on the popular "Austin City Limits" program, incorporates live performances, interviews, and conversations with and about each featured artist

Holiday Party
Four years ago, when we initiated the Blues Blast as part of our annual commitment to our member bands and membership, we introduced our first Christmas Party at Mojo's with the Winner of the Blues Blast hosting the December Jam on a Sunday evening. If you recall, at that time we were also involved in the weekly Sunday night jams at Mojo's. So it was a natural thing for us to grow into a Christmas Party. Since then, we have grown into the annual "Holiday Party". We had a great time last year with a sell out crowd at Bones in Jefferson City.

Daddy Mack Blues Band With Billy Gibson To perform at Richardson Auditorium
November 11 As part of the "Share in the Arts" series At Lincoln University!

I will never forget the first time that I saw Daddy Mack - at Richardson Auditorium several years back. I had recently discovered that music was a bonding experience for me and my autistic grandson, Anthony. We had been attending as many live music performances as appropriate for his age - and safe for me to appear in public with his sometimes-unpredictable behaviors.

IBC - International Blues Challenge
For any one that still is unfamiliar with IBC - it began years ago as "Blues First" - an annual blues convention in Memphis along with a competition for the best un-signed blues band contest. The International Blues Challenge (IBC) grew into a huge event, and one which I still believe is the best weekend of live blues in Memphis all year long for a real blues fan. But that is not all that happens that you might enjoy and benefit from.
