This years IBC was a blast as usual.
The official logo of the Blues Foundation said it best:
The Worlds Largest Gathering Of Blues Bands.
There are many great things about this event. Having 130 blues bands on one street all playing in one night (twice) is quite the treat, with each playing 30 min sets you sure won't get bored. The variety is amazing, west coast, east coast, upper northwest, way down south, our Missouri bands and acts from other countries too. There are the solo/duo acts and bands ranging from basic three piece to full bands with horns and other interesting combinations. No matter the style or the instruments there is a lot of talent to go around, every year it just seems to get better. The finals had 11 bands and - as usual - was a real shootout to the end. Neither of our member bands made it to the finals but they sure played some great music and I would say the crowds responded well to their sets.
Message from the Prez…
I just returned from the IBC in Memphis. We got there Thurs. afternoon and jumped right into the activities. There were so many great bands to hear. For the ones that went you know what a great time it is and for those that have never been you should put it on your calendar to go. It is an experience! I would also like to encourage you to join the Blues Foundation. The web site is www.blues.org It is worthwhile to join as you will see when you get on their site. The Blues Foundation gives us the IBC to participate in.
ATTENTION BLUES SOCIETY MEMBERS:
As you are probably already aware, on December 15th The Blues Foundation announced the nominations for the 2006 Blues Music Awards (formerly the W.C. Handys). Delta Groove Productions is honored to have received 9 nominations in 8 separate categories for all of our artists. For a new label that just barely got it's start a little over a year ago, we are extremely proud and delighted to have our artists represented along side some of the most well respected labels and musicians in the business.
Hope you all enjoy! So wonderful that two of our band members participated in USO shows over the holidays!
Here ya go!
"From the 28th of December 2005 until the 6th of January 2006 I joined "Matthew D. Ward and Random Tuesday" on an experience I will remember a lifetime; on the Top of the world, "The Coolest Place on Earth", Thule Air Force Base in Northwest Greenland. The base is a few hundred miles south of the North Pole, a location so far north the Northern Lights are the Southern Lights and seldom seen.
The Music Insider
Do You Want to be Like Mick?
One of my guys went to the Rolling Stones Concert in St. Louis recently. He said Mick Jagger was still a great performer, and he worked the whole stage with his quirky movements and expressions. Many times Mick would point his mic towards the audience to get the crowd going. Or, Mick would walk over to one of his bandmates and share the mic on a harmony part. (How anyone can actually look Keith Richards in the face, I'll never know.) So, if you want to put more "show" in your "business", here's what you need to know about wireless microphones.
THE PORK ROLL PROJECT
THE PORK ROLL PROJECT
BY PETER "BLEWZZMAN" LAURO
While I was reading through the names of the players and special guests that make up the PORK ROLL PROJECT, several of the names sounded a bit familiar to this usually very forgetful person. Further investigation revealed that indeed, three of the personnel were involved with other ensembles that I have favorably reviewed in the past. Therefore, before even spinning the disc, I already had a good idea that once again, I'd be listening to some real good music. Those names by the way are NEIL "PORKROLL" TAYLOR (guitar) and PAUL MATECKI (piano, guitar and vocals) - formerly reviewed while with 'Melissa Martin and the Rhythm Kings
and special guest MISTY "MISS T" AKERS - formerly reviewed with 'Miss T and the Mosquitoes'.
